Well I broke down and gave Aion a try recently.  That lasted about a day.  Aion, while being very pretty, has some major flaws.  Now, all games and MMOs have flaws, but the issue is what the flaws are.  The first major flaw is simply the massive amounts of overcrowding.  You’re looking at a 30min-2 hour wait just to log into a server to play.  Now i’ll even accept and get by this because it’s a new MMO and NCSoft wasn’t prepared for the massive influx of players that are desperate to get out of WoW’s clutches.  This is easily fixable and was an unforseen risk on their part.

What I can’t and will never be able to accept is the allowance of kill-stealing or loot-stealing in a game.  In this day and age there is simply no excuse whatsoever for this hinderance being in a game.  There’s simply no practical purpose behind this aside from trying to get most of the people that started the game to abandon ship to reduce server populations.  There is just no reasoning behind this madness.  As crowded as the starting area is you basically can’t do the opening quests because there is a person at each mob spawn point and if you do manage to fight something someone snags the kill out from under you or walks by and snags the loot.  It’s a shame that so many MMO’s have so many gameplay issues these days.  They’ve been around enough that we really need some polish.

MMO Developers, stop worrying about gimmicks and just make a game without the flaws.  No kill stealing, No looting, A game that works for PvP fans and PvE fans without hindering either side, lots of classes, instanced dungeons, and a crafting system that allows people to focus on that just as much as PvE.
