Halloween Movie Special

‘Tis the season!  It has been somewhat difficult to get into the Halloween mood this year.  I missed the zombie walk here in Orlando (2nd year in a row).  New baby also means no Halloween Horror Nights as well, and I have to go to my step-brother’s wedding on Hallow’s Eve!

All this on my favorite holiday of the year.

But, even on this bleak holiday season, I will find something to lighten (or darken) my mood.  I have decided to dust off a couple of my favorite flicks and share them with my captive readers.  All 7 of you.  Most of these are relatively new so that you can get the effect and not have to dig around for some scares.  These are separated by my classification for ease of reading.

Not the original 1980’s version, but it’s honestly the next best thing.  The writers cherry-picked all the good parts from all 58 movies and give us a very cohesive flick.  For us hardcore fans, Jason’s attraction to premarital sex and drug use is still (thankfully) intact.

A good thriller with John Cusack?  What?  Yes.  And honestly, I am not going to give anything away.  The only thing I will say, is that the ending is not something you would expect.  Honestly.  Straight out of left field.

A Halloween staple at my house.  I have all of the sequels, but this one is the prime jewel.  Not scary boo, scary as in it could happen to you.

ZOMBIES – 28 Days Later

The movie that started the evolution of zombies from the “brains, scuffle slowly” to “running, snarling, rabid cannibals”.  If you haven’t seen this, watch it.

Not one word.  Seriously.  I had to see this movie twice.  In a row.  If you do see it on my word, tell me this just wasn’t all f*cked up.

And finally…

MONSTERS – Nightbreed

One of my favorite movies of all time.  It’s X-Men meets Hellraiser.  A weird combo to be sure, but if you can find this diamond in the rough (and trust me it’s not easy), give it a go.

I know I don’t have a vampire or werewolf movie.  Only because, I have yet to see a vampire movie that didn’t involve copious amounts of sex and a werewolf movie that wasn’t An American Werewolf in London.  If you do have some additions, please don’t hesistate.

I’ve seen most of these movies excellent list I haven’t seen Night breed so I am getting it now.

I can’t believe you didn’t put Silent Hill movie up there though that was just great, even better since really showed video games can transition into movies if done right.

I wouldn’t really consider that movie scary. I did want to add it, but I consider it mostly a comedy.

Well the first one was a straight up horror but the rest turned into slap stick.
