WarCraft and You: Gender Bendin’

I believe that when you play WoW, your virtual avatar must be a representation of yourself.  Whole-heartedly.

If you play Alliance (Horde rules), then you all know about Goldshire.  Or as we Horde (Alliance sucks) players like to call it “Red-Light Shire”.  Why?  Just walk through the place on peak nights.  I assure you that you will no doubt be accosted by several “female” characters trying to offer some “illicit” goods for gold.  Most of them (if not all) are male.

Here is a quick video to illustrate my point:

Leaves a bad taste in your mouth don’t it?

That was way funnier than it had any right to be. We actually had a great discussion in Legal and Ethical Issues in Computing the other day about whether or not there are ethical issues to playing opposite gender characters in MMOs. Pretty interesting stuff.
