The Sword – Ending Thoughts (Mild Spoilers)

I'm going to miss waiting for this comic every few weeks.

It’s been a long and stressful ride, but the Luna Brothers’ “The Sword” has finally reached its conclusion.  For those who haven’t read it, The Sword is about Dara, a girl whose family is murdered in front of her by three super powered gods in a world where everything else is normal.  She then finds a magic Sword, that grants people godlike power, hidden in the house by her father who has been keeping tabs on the other three gods for millenniums.  The story becomes incredibly intense as she begins to hunt down the individuals responsible and try and come to grips with having the incredible power of the sword.  The Luna Brothers manage to bring an incredibly amount of realism to the series to the point of the gory details of what happens when you have super strength and punch someone in the face without thinking about holding your punch.  The comic was full of twists and turns as well as more suspense then most series I’ve read.  You find yourself getting caught up and feeling genuine concern for Dara’s safety through the entire story and that takes some writing skill these days.  The ending comes complete with a huge twist reveal that flew out of nowhere to me, but was welcomed by the end.  As for the final pages, man, it’s just really messed up.  I was satisfied by the ending, but I felt this is one of the few times where I would have liked the picture perfect ending over anything else.  If you haven’t read The Sword, I highly recommend you go find some trades and strap yourself in for the ride.
