It Came From Tokyo Game Show!

As always, Tokyo Game Show hits fast and hard with fantastic trailers and news.  Here are some of the highlights thus far.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Some repeat footage from older trailers, but it’s just so fantastic looking that it’s always worth watching again.  Hopefully the game will live up to even half the hype the trailer provides.

Excitement level: 6 because it’s hard to imagine anything surpassing the original Deus Ex.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Here we have the first mega-trailer that reveals much about the plot and story behind the game.  We also see a lot more of the world here, and you can see how it didn’t get the Castlevania title until much later in the production.  Though many of the elements that make a Castlevania game are missing, you can see the inspiration through the entirety of the game as well as in the power ups you’ll be gaining as the game progresses.  While the initial God Of War feel is still present, I think it’ll be overshadowed (by some Lords maybe? heh) by the setting and story being weaved.

Excitement level: 8

The Last Guardian

Team Ico brings us another stunning delight in the new trailer for The Last Guardian.  This will be the final game in the Ico trilogy and we really don’t know anything about where this will take place in the story/world developed by Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.  The game is already deceptively whimsical and heartwarming.  This is a bad sign simply because of what we know from prior incarnations of the games.  We can already tell there is a group out to either destroy the monster or the boy.  Judging by the arrows sticking out of the creature’s body, we can imagine that he’s going to suffer through a lot as the game progresses.  I know this game will bring me to tears by the end of it.  I’m already predicting that you’ll have to kill the creature yourself by the end of the game even as he doesn’t fight back because he loves you too much.

Excitement Level: 10 for BAWWWWWW T.T

Ico & Shadow of the Colossus (HD Relaunch)

After lots of hinting and promises, we finally have the first trailer for the HD PS3 re-launches of Ico & Shadow of the Colossus.  Along with the graphics overhaul, there will be added Trophies you can earn and we should see a whole new generation finally getting to play Ico because it was super rare when it first came out.

Excitement Level: 10 (Even though I have both games)

Shadows of the Damned

Wow. This came out of left field.  The style of Suda 51 (No More Heroes), the presentation of Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil 4), and the sound of Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill).  I already have to purchase this game on these names alone.  It’s like the Expendables of the Japanese video game world.  The game itself looks to be a hyper stylized 3rd person action horror that seems to conjure up the feeling of From Dusk Till Dawn and other grindhouse style movies.

Excitement Level: 10 (Seriously! Suda51, Shinji Mikami, and Akira Yamaoka!)

DMC (Devil May Cry 5)

Here we have a prequel-prequel or a reboot of the Devil May Cry franchise. Now we have Dante as a london-punk style teenager doing what he’s always done.  It’s kind of funny though.  In the other games his attitude and style worked so well and made him into this badass.  But now that he’s a teenager he comes across as a snot-nosed punk with no respect.  Maybe I’m age-ist?

Excitement Level: 2 (Maybe I’ll be wrong and the game’ll be awesome, but man he just seems annoying now)

Alice: Madness Returns

We’re finally seeing the sequel to American McGee’s Alice that came out back in 2000.  The original game was creative and one of the first of the real dark re-imagining genre.  I loved the original game and I was never a huge fan of the Alice story to begin with.  While I don’t know if this sequel is necessary, It will be nice to see what ideas they come up with.

Excitement Level: 6 (Snicker-snack)

Other big news:

-Panzer Dragoon: Project Draco announced for Kinect

-Radiant Silvergun coming to XBox360

-Rise of Nightmares announced for Kinect – dark horror rail-shooter

-X-23 and Tronn Bonne announced as playable characters for Marvel Vs Capcom 3: FTW

-New Dead Rising Add-on case that focuses on continuing the story of Frank West.  Fantastic!
